I have three guy dolls in my 10"
fashion doll collection.
Twin brothers, Chris and John are both
Uneeda Bob dolls.
And Thomas is a Vogue Jeff doll.
With the Holiday season approaching
all three of my guys needed
formal attire.
Last year the twins both looked quite dapper
for the Christmas Ball.
Thomas will need a formal suit as well.
SO, I started an online search....
I found these clothes labeled as Vogue Jeff.
The jacket and PJs fit, but the
slacks were from a Ken doll.
Then...
I found these two Uneeda Bob dolls.
AS you can see, they both have shoes and the
Bob on the left has a full outfit!
Then...
I found this listing of vintage Ken doll clothes.
I have found that with a little adjustment
the vintage Ken clothes work for the
Uneeda Bob dolls.
The two Bob dolls arrived first, so I
started trimming off long strings...
And using FRAY CHECK on the rough edges.
Then everything got a good ironing.
Next were the Ken doll clothes.
Ken slacks are too long!
So I cut and hemmed the pants.
I also did the pair of black tuxedo pants.
This little flannel jacket needed the
buttons moved. Oddly two or three
items needed the buttons moved.
Hmmm?
As you can see these 1970s slacks
AND...
This navy sport coat were much too large.
But, you know how I like a challenge.
I removed the sleeve buttons so I could
shorten the sleeves.
I removed the pockets so I could slim the sides.
The slacks were hemmed and...
I brought in the inseam.
This sweater and jacket were fine, so they just got
a wash along with everything else.

HERE
THEY
ARE!
This blue lounge suit is one of my favorites.
The white shoes make me think of Pat Boone!
This 1970s suit is SO Groovy!
Here is the navy jacket mixed
with the grey flannel slacks and
an ascot, of course.
This is the white wool jacket paired with
the hemmed Ken tuxedo pants.
Here is the flannel jacket and slacks.
A nice casual look.
This sweater is paired with some
corduroy pants the guys already had.
With the addition of an extra shirt,
jacket and slacks, all three of my
guys now have a formal suit to wear.
Not to mention several
additional casual looks!
I love all your new guys and their new duds!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen,
ReplyDeleteI am pleased with all the new guy clothes I have now.
I now have 2 extra Bob dolls to do something with, hm…

The guys are looking spiffy now! Wonderful work on the alterations!
ReplyDeleteThank you Maryn,
ReplyDeleteI am very happy with the new wardrobe pieces I found. I think the guys are looking good, if I do say so myself.

Brenda
Hi Brenda, Here in Arkansas I have been doing much the same as you only for my original vintage Ken doll. Just had a friend give me her vintage Barbie, Ken and Skipper clothes collection. Using your techniques I have the Barbie clothes completely rehabbed. Now onto the Ken ones. He also has a very limited suit wardrobe. Been using my Barbie patterns to craft him some casual outfits but have found a PDF pattern I need to purchase to make him some formal wear and jackets. Never had the patience for these tiny garments until retirement. Super fun to make the 1960's come alive again for these dolls.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your rehab of the other two men dolls. Your ideas are always so fun to see.
Happy Thanksgiving, Doreen in Arkansas
Hi Doreen,
ReplyDeleteI am still thinking about my extra 2 guys. I’ve done this before, buying a doll to get the clothes. I would like to restore them before I decide, but I definitely don’t need any more guys!
Happy Thanksgiving
Brenda
But Brenda, don't you know you need a guy for EVERY Miss so there aren't any rivalry & jealousy!
DeleteHi Brenda,
ReplyDeleteI so admire your talent, and tenacity, in rehabbing your guys' clothes.
I like doing repairs, but somehow, I think the amount of remodeling you do is beyond me!
but you sure do inspire me!
Janet
Hi Janet,
Deletethank you so much, you know how I like a makeover. I like to see if I can make something look better and fit better. I am happy with how the ‘groovy’ polyester suit came out. Hehe. I think my dad had some slacks like those in the 70s.
I am so glad that you feel inspired!

ReplyDeleteBrenda, great finds, and I love your alterations!
ReplyDeleteI have always liked the detail on the vintage Ken jackets!
Hugs, Jenny :-)
Hi Jenny,
ReplyDeleteI had fun with these alterations. It feels good that my guys have sone more outfits. I think a lot of these Ken clothes are from the 60s, they have the black labels. They do have really nice details.

Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteThank you, you know how I enjoy makeovers! Regarding your Sweet Sue, you can absolutely wash her hair. If you search my blood for my full size Miss Revlon, you can see how I washed her hair. I think they are very similar in age and materials. Just be gentle and you’ll be fine. I use wig shampoo that I buy at a beauty supply shop. It is designed for synthetic hair.

You are so welcome! I hope that was helpful. These hard plastic dolls are pretty durable. Oh and I’m glad you knew I meant search my “blog” and not “blood”! Haha ( stupid auto correct)

Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteI saw a meme recently that said, “autocorrect is like a cute elf in your phone trying to help, but he is very drunk.” Hahaha!
