I have a dear friend, Joanne,
who is a thrifter like me.
We always keep an eye out for items
that the other might like.
Well, Joanne found this bunch of doll clothes for me!
They range from the 1940s to the 1960s.
I am slowly finding dolls for these dresses.
I LOVE this vintage red and grey print dress
on my McGuffey Ana doll and my
Gerber baby has this cute star play suit.
I still have not figured out what I will do with all the
dresses, but I will be sure to share with you all!
BUT TODAY!!
I am really having fun with
these two dresses.
These two dresses have prints that I
thought might work for my Crissy dolls.
This is actually a really old dress.
It is completely hand stitched.
This dress is polyester and I just love
the butterfly and flower pattern.
I will start with this dress.
First thing I did was remove the heavy
red arm and neck tape.
I turn the dress inside out and pin the sides
to create a slimmer A-line dress.
I needed a lighter bias tape.
Hmmm, yellow or green?
With the extra fabric I trimmed off, I made
a pair of matching bloomers.
Oh, and I chose yellow. :)
Here are the bloomers.
Next is the yellow and black dress.
I love the pattern on this dress.
It makes me think of Fall.
Just like the first dress I removed
the old bias tape, cut down the side seams
and used a black and white gingham
fabric to finish this makeover.
Want to see the dresses now?
Here
They
Are!
The yellow bias tape brightened this dress up.
Crissy has a very groovy shoulder bag.
Here is Shea in the yellow gingham dress.
I like how the black gingham adds interest.
Shea too has a shoulder bag.
Hand crocheted
with lots of fringe!
With the extra fabric from her dress,
I made a matching head band.
BEFORE
AND
AFTER!!
Thank you Joanne for thinking of me
when you saw these dresses!

OH!
One more thing!!
My Cricket is finally here!!
She is already best friends with her new sisters.
And all the girls together.
An excellent gift. It's good to have a friend like that. A great change of dresses. Hugs
ReplyDeleteHi Brenda, what a good friend you have. That is a lovely lot of clothes you got. The dresses turned out really well. They look so pretty on the girls.
ReplyDeleteI love cricket. She fits into the group perfectly.

Hi Anna,
ReplyDeleteYes, she is a good friend! I have enjoyed playing with these dresses and making them something new. I am so happy to have Cricket. I had a Cricket doll as a girl and she was definitely my favorite! I am really being drawn back into the 70s era. So much fun!

I adore vintage dresses. They're so much fun to find, when I can. Kinda rare in my neck of the woods. I love the charm of each dress, usually handmade by some loving mom, Gramma, or Aunt. Those dresses turned out so cute. I really like that yellow one. You could take the extra dresses and pin them with tiny clothes pins to a string and display them from the wall or shelf I have two homemade tops that have strung across two small washboards in my laundry room. The shirts were handmade, but were never used as the seamstress didn't leave enough room to dress a doll. It is a nice way to look at them when you can't put them on a doll 😊
ReplyDeleteI forgot to say my name after my previous comment. I'm the one that said something about displaying doll clothes across washboards. Thanks, Jennifer
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteThanks! I love your washboard idea! That sounds adorable!. I have SO many doll clothes. I am sure I could create a little clothesline in my doll room.
If I do, I'll post it and mention that you gave me the idea! I love vintage doll clothes too! I know a lot of collectors want an original tagged dress for their dolls, but I love the Mom or Grandma made dresses. Someone took time out of a busy life to sew something for a doll. I just love that.
