Thrift Store Finds!

I have been thrifting!

I will sometimes go for weeks at a time without
finding anything of interest, but lately!
I have definitely had a turn of luck.
I think I will start with the small items first!

I found these two tiny Flow Blue plates...

 and two miniature butter molds.

This is the only mark I could find on the little plates.

The plates will be a great addition to
my other tiny vintage plates.
I believe these are all butter pat plates, but they
are the perfect size for doll tea parties.

I'm always on the lookout for miniature dressers,
actually a jewelry box, but you see where I'm going.
I also found this little mirror, a perfect find
to go over my new dresser.

Here they are together in Shirley's room.
 So sweet!

Shirley can sit on her bed and see her reflection.

Next I found a set of doll cookware and
a real antique doll iron and wooden ironing board.

The iron handle unlatches for heating on the stove.

Another amazing find is this quarter-sawn white oak cradle.

The wood was very dry.  I gave it a good soaking
with furniture oil and...

Here it is complete with mattress, pillows and vintage quilt.

Joan loves her new bed.

Next I found this vintage play pen from the 1950s.
I think my kitten quilt is perfect with the red accents.

Kewpie is finally being kept out of trouble!

Last, but not least, I found this
1971 Ideal Velvet doll.

I washed her hair and cleaned her up and
look at her now!

Her hair came out great and she looks so much better!

Here are the butter molds on the wall in
the doll's kitchen...

And the new plates and the pots on the stove.

And, the doll room with new cradle and playpen!

Well, I have been very satisfied with my
thrifting and I hope you enjoyed
seeing all my finds.

Oh my goodness, I love everything! You are so good at finding the most perfect items. I think I love the plates best. I believe I had a little cook set like the one you found.
Can you take us thrift shopping next time you go? We would just like to follow behind you and see what we can find (chuckle).
(Thanks for posting, especially during these challenging times. It's nice to escape into the world of dolls.)

Thank you Dorothy! I agree, it is great to have a little escape right now. I debated about posting anything, but felt as you do. A few minutes away from the news might be welcome.

I have had some amazing luck lately! I can not believe all the little things I have found. Keep in mind, these are finds from over the past 2 months, but still amazing! Thrifting to me is like and Easter egg hunt from my childhood. I am always waiting to make that next great find!

Take care

Thank you Joan! The iron is a real working iron too! I could heat it on the stove and use it!, I won't but I could. I really enjoyed finding all these goodies for my dolls. I hope you are keeping well and safe.

Hi Brenda;
You sure did have a wonderful time at the thrift store. Your doll room looks so lovely. I especially like the cradle.

Thanks Marion! I do enjoy thrifting. I find so many fun things. I like the cradle too, but my favorite is definitely the play pen. I think because it is unusual. I think my doll room is possibly needing a larger space!

Take care

Thank you Marilyn! I do feel as if I hit the jackpot. Such amazing finds and so fun to share them with my doll friends. Velvet really turned out great, her ponytail is still pretty full.

I am glad you stopped in and take care!

What a fabulous hoard you found there Brenda! Love all the pieces, especially the tiny plates, and the restoration work on the crib looks absolutely fabulous.

Although I like how your doll's hair has been revived, I was a little concerned about her face, she looks like she has had some collagen pumped into those lips of hers. :)
Big hugs,
X

Hi Xanadu!

Haha! Yes, Velvet is not my favorite Crissy Family doll. She has a strange expression. My favorite is Cricket, I don't even know if you are familiar with these dolls?!? I had a Cricket and Baby Crissy in the early 70s when I was quite young. This will give you an idea how old I am!

The tiny plates are very pretty. I know they must be antique because I don't believe the Flow Blue technique is done anymore.

Take Care and hugs

Oh yes! I definitely enjoyed seeing all your finds! I would love to browse through a thrift shop. What a thrill it would be to have a doll room like yours. One of my daughters had a Velvet doll and another had a Crissy doll. We made lots of clothes for them from double knit fabric which was the fabric of choice in the 70s. lol I've been trying to find the dress patterns for them to make new ones from cottons.

Thanks Sandra,

I'm so glad you enjoyed my post. I always have so much fun planning and taking photos. I have had amazing luck lately thrifting. I am planning my Doll Room tour next! I will add some dimensions - or maybe me sitting with my dolls for size comparison. My doll/craft room is in a finished attic area. I should do it while I have so much time to clean and arrange everything, haha!

Thanks Charlotte (Lil Red Hen),

I had a Cricket and a Baby Crissy when I was 6. I LOVED brushing their hair. The dress Velvet is wearing a dress I made for a 1970s era doll. I used a American Girl Doll Molly slip pattern for some of the 1970s dresses I made. It is a basic "A" line which was perfect. I used cotton fabrics, but I do remember wearing those double knit fabrics to school!

Hi Brenda! I always enjoy your posts, and this one is no exception. You are a great treasure hunter! I wish I had a room where I could display my dolls and furniture. I saved doll furniture for years hoping this would happen one day, but as we get older, we are hoping to go smaller instead of larger. So most of the furniture I have saved has been given to family or sold. But it's all good. I am working on simplifying everything in my life, including my collecting.
Blessings!

Hi Carolyn!
I get what you are saying. I am very fortunate to have this little attic space for my own! I know one day I will have to downsize my collection too. I sometimes look around and ask myself if we moved to a smaller house what would I take and what would go? I'd have to sell a lot!! I have a policy that if I get a new doll, an older doll has to go!. This helps me control myself, most of the time, haha!

Hey Brenda you're only as old as you feel! I have a saying on my blog . . .
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing ~ George Bernard Shaw.

So keep on playing!

Xanadu, I absolutely agree!! Thank you for that reminder.
