This little doll was found thanks to my son.
My son is 16 and he has become my thrifting buddy.
This little girl is from the year I was born!
1966.
She is a Madame Alexander Sweet Tears.
She is 13" tall and she drinks and wets.
She is wearing her original dress,
but she and her dress are very dirty.
YIKES!
She and her dress got a thorough wash.
Her dress was soaked in Dawn.
For her hair I used my goto
doll shampoo and conditioners.
After her clothes were dry, her bloomers
needed new elastic.
The original tag on her dress.
She borrowed this little dress while her
dress was drying.
Such a sweet face.
I went looking for other outfits
for her and found this little
christening gown.
Her hair came out very shiny and smooth.
My friend Susan J. recently sent me
the little doll rattle and bottle.
They are the perfect size for her!
I think this little vintage playpen
is perfect for her.
All set with her rattle and her bottle.
Welcome home Sweet Tears!

that it is the 100th Anniersary
of the Madame Alexander Doll Co.

Dear Brenda, Darla looks so pretty after her makeover. And yes she does look like a Darla. There was a Darla on the Little Rascals and she was adorable.
It is so wonderful that you son found this cutie doll this year because, as I am sure you know, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Alexander Doll Company! I wasn't able to attend the Convention this year in Indianapolis but friends went and shared how much fun they had.
I so look forward to your posts. Thanks for being a dolly beacon for those of us who like to read about dolls and doll makeovers.

Thank you! I would love to go to a Madame Alexander convention! How fun! I try to go to doll shows in my area, but they are few and far between.

Darla is so precious!
What a wonderful job on her restoration! It's a night and day difference. I agree, it's the perfect name for her and I am also reminded of the Little Rascals character.
Total serendipity to find a post here today! (I stopped by a couple of days ago just to check and see what you've been up to, and was concerned not to find recent news. Glad to know you are 'still dolling'!)
What a sweet little girl - she certainly did clean up beautifully. That's always SO gratifying! (I love that you have so many garments on hand that fit her, even though she arrived with her original dress.)

I'm so glad you stopped by just in time to meet Darla. She was a little surprise right when I needed her. I have SO many garments of all sizes. I think this may be a common side effect of doll collecting. Hahaha! Thanks to you she also has some bottles and rattles.

It's always so nice to hear from my doll friends. The christening gown was a dress I purchased, years ago, for my little china baby my Grandma painted for me. It was actually too big for my china baby, but it fits Darla perfectly!

It's always so nice to share with my doll friends. I had never seen a Sweet Tears before either! So amazing she was from my birth year too. I haven't tested her drink and wet function yet, but I am pretty certain her insides are in good shape.

I was so happy to hear from you and your sisters. Little Darla was a pretty simple restore, just a wash and brush really, but she came at a good time. She is such a sweet little thing. It's amazing how dolls take us back to simpler times.
