Vogue Ginny!

 Look who I found!
This is a Vogue Ginny Doll
from around 1955.

Yes, she was in a thrift store.

She has good color in her face.

Vogue Ginny dolls were designed by
Jennie Adler Graves in 1948 for the
Vogue Doll Company.

She became popular for her adorable
features and detailed outfits and accessories.

Later more family members were added.
Ginnette a little baby and Jill
an older sister.

And later still, Jeff and Jan.
They are the two on the back left.

This is my Baby Ginette.

This is my Vogue Jeff, who I named Thomas.

Back to my Ginny.

She came with these little sweet dresses.

I believe this may be her original dress.

Pink taffeta with blue trim.

Brown cotton with overlarge trim.
This may get a makeover.

Very sweet yellow gingham.

I think this may have been a swim suit, but
missing the bloomers.

Her hair is a big mess.

Her spa day starts with a hair wash.
These dolls had their hair glued
directly to their head. The hair is often
awkwardly glued and discolored.

First brush out. Not too bad.

And the front.

Found this little slip in
my 'small doll clothes' drawer.

Her hair was getting nice braids when
this happened!

Poor girl, so much icky glue!

In for a penny, in for a pound!

I decided to soak the glue out of her hair
so I could smooth and style it better.

NEXT MORNING

Ginny's clothes have soaked overnight...

And are laid out to dry.

Ginny's hair has re-curled itself!
As soon as it is dry I will
reglue it to her head.

I covered a small area of her crown
with 'Tacky Glue'.

I laid her wig on this area and
held it in place with a soft
hair band.

I tried different hairstyles but
braids seemed the best solution
to keep her long hair in order.

I wanted her to have a hat. I thought I
might have at least one small hat.
I found three!

Overall, I am very happy with this little Ginny.
She was a bit difficult at times,
but so pleased with her now!

Here is Ginny next to my Muffie doll.
I think they are going to be friends!

Hi Brenda,
That is my dream to find a Ginny doll at a thrift store, and to find some cute clothes as well is a bonus. Ginny is a favourite of mine with all her little accessories. Your Ginny looks so pretty after her makeover. I love her plaits. I am so pleased Muffie has a friend now.

Hi Anna,
I hope you find your Ginny! I actually saw her clothes first in a little plastic bag. Then nearby was a basket of small dolls and there was Ginny. Thank you, I am pleased with how Ginny came out. It is tricky working on such a small doll. Sadly she lost a LOT of hair during her spa day and hair style. Muffie is very happy having a playmate.

Another amazing restoration! It's wonderful how much brighter her clothes are after their overnight soak. And I agree, the plaits are adorable!

Hi Mary,
Thank you! You know restorations are my favorite. I always try to wash doll clothes. I have seen some dull colorless dresses come alive.

Cool find! I think the braids are quite fitting. I actually am a little encouraged to see the hair accident. It makes me think, well if the hair does come off after washing, then it is possible to carefully glue it back on. I've always wondered what would happen. I've looked at the one lady who restores Nancy Ann Storybook dolls on fb and she takes that hair off, washes it, and glues it back on. Makes me nervous to think about lol, but it is encouraging to know that it can be salvaged. Thanks for sharing! -Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks! I think I have learned more about doll restoring after these type of mishaps than anything else. I have re-wigged several other dolls. Mostly when the dolls I find have such damaged wigs that I have no choice. If you look back at Daisy's restoration (click on the image of my dolls at the top of my blog and it takes you to each doll's story) You can see how I gave her a new wig. I am frequently finding myself in a tricky situation due to my tendency to forge ahead. Haha! Don't be nervous, it is really pretty simple, re-wigging I mean.

I have a Gwinnett doll from my childhood. She was a faithful companion for me to play with during long car trips to my grandparents house. She also was the one I loved to hand sew outfits for a I grew up. Boy...they are rough but I did keep my efforts...fun to see now.
I got a Ginny...possibly a knock off several years ago. Her hair is blond too and I had to glue it back in place as well. Very scary but she's a cutie now. I like to see how your extra outfits were constructed. I mainly do sewing for my American girl dolls but these little dresses for Ginny and Gimme the look so ruffly and cute. I just may have to try my hand at the cute skirt and straps design. Thanks as always for sharing.
