Patsy Baby - At Last!

This box arrived just the other day.

Inside was this little baby!

She came with this Christening outfit and shoes.

Her clothes went into a soak wash.

She needed to be restrung.

All better!

While her clothes were drying I
tried on this little dress and hat.
SO SWEET!

I decided she needed a Christening bonnet.
I have a supply of vintage hankies, so I selected
one and cut it in half.

On the cut edge I made a wide hem.
Then I gathered the lace side and sewed it
down with ribbon.

The rear wide hem I laced another
ribbon through to gather the back.
Tied this into a bow and....

Super easy bonnet from a hankie!

I always pick up these doll bassinets
when I find them. Like most things
that come into my doll room it
got painted pink.

A few years ago I found this China Head
doll in a thrift store. I made her a new dress
and had lots of this fabric left over!

I decided to make a floral doll quilt.

You can see I also covered the changing table
in the same fabric. The tall dresser is
part of a Salesman's sample set.

The big dresser is in the compo doll room.

There it is in the corner.

So here is Baby's room.

Here she is in her bassinet with Teddy.

Here is a close-up of her bed jacket
and bonnet.

There is one more item we need help with...
We don't know what to call her!

Oh my goodness! She is really adorable! I love the sweet bonnet and quilt you made for her and her gown and jacket came out so nicely.

I don't think you have a Dorothy yet, and Dorothy was in the top 10 from 1930-1937 (according to Wikipedia, at least). I had an aunt named Dorothy Jean, born in 1930--although she always went by Jean. So I'll throw Dorothy into the suggestion box for you!

Hi Maryn,
Thank you! I have wanted a Patsy Baby for sooo long! I was so excited to work on her and set her up. Everything just came together.
I like Dorothy and Jean! Those are both on my favorite list.

Hi Sandra,
I did touch up her paint on her arms and legs and tiny bit on her face. Restringing is actually quite simple with these dolls. It is a 5 piece stringing, meaning you just link all the parts together on heavy elastic inside their bodies and tie if off. Then i trim the excess off and tuck the ends inside. I must admit I hesitate even after restringing several of my dolls. I just don’t like taking them apart! I’m glad you enjoy my blog and pop by to chat.

Hi Brenda,

I often name my dolls after an old friend, or a much loved family member. but sometimes a name just pops into my head and won't leave. That happened to me with two dolls, both had possibly names, but they just didn't seem to stick.

Since your new baby is a Patsy family, ask you other Patsy girls what they want to name their new sister, you may find a name that goes with their names.

Hi Janet,
I think I will ask the other dolls what her name should be! That’s a great idea.

She looks so sweet all cleaned up and resting in her bassinet with her quilt. Her little bonnet is adorable. She's got lots of new friends. I've named some of my dolls and then I forget the names! You keep your doll room so neat and organized. I'm envious. My problem is too much stuff that I end up never using. That and too many dolls, but I think I've mentioned that before. :) Betty

Hi Betty,
Thank you! I’m so happy about this little girl. Let me say honestly that my doll room is not always neat and tidy! I do have a policy that when I get a new doll, I have to sell an old doll. It is an attempt to keep my collection manageable. I too have a LOT of doll accessories and clothes that should probably be thinned down. It’s all so cute!!! It’s hard to decide what to part with. Sigh

Hi Brenda,
I love your new baby and her room. She is so sweet. She is very lucky to have those beautiful big sisters too!
I wish I had your will power with dolls.
I keep adding to my collection. I do try to stick to certain types, the trouble is there are so many types out there!
It's so exciting when you find a doll you have never seen or had before.
Enjoy your new baby

Hi Anna,
Thank you, I am certainly very pleased with my new baby. She is being looked after by all her big sisters. I do try to have sone discipline with my collection, but to be honest I have not kept a strict hold on the numbers. You are right, there are SO many adorable dolls! What can we do?

I am so happy that you showed how you made your baby a bonnet from a hanky.
I have a Patsy Babyette who needs a lightweight bonnet, so I think I am going to follow your pictures to make her one from a tiny hanky.

I'll send you a picture when I am one! Thanks for the idea!

Hi Janet!
I am so glad you like my bonnet idea. I have done this a couple times and it is SO simple if you sew at all. I can't wait to see how it comes out.
