A Thrift Store Doll Find!

I have not found any dolls thrifting for awhile,
but guess who I found today!?!

An 19" Madame Alexander Pussy Cat Doll.

Poor baby is very dirty and has a sticker on her face!

Her hair is very matted.

She came wearing this vintage
3 mos baby dress and bloomers.
I soaked it overnight in cold
water and Dawn dishsoap.

She is VERY dirty.

VERY dirty!

She has a tear in her crotch.

I used Fray Check all around the torn
area. It dries clear. Then stitched
it all up.  The Fray Check
strengthens the surrounding fabric
so the stitches dont just pull out.

I used the usual cleaning team.
The shampoo and conditioning spray
I get from a beauty supply.
It is synthetic hair shampoo, designed for
wigs and other synthetic hair.

Getting all clean!
I did use a leave-in hair conditioner
after her hair was washed.

Here she is after her first hair brushing.
She already looks better.

And the back. Much better.

Here she is wearing a Kitty
dress and leggings.

She is looking much happier.
(and much cleaner!)

Here she is in her dress.  I gave her
some satiny slippers and a
little baby bracelet.

Before  and   After
SO MUCH BETTER!!
She looks like a happy baby.

Hi Brenda,
She looks brand new! Are you going to keep her? She would look sweet sitting
beside your Puddin baby.
It's amazing what a Good clean can do.

Thank you Anna,
She does look so much better. I do enjoy finding dolls and making them pretty again. I’m not sure if I’ll keep her, but for now she is sitting with Puddin in the cradle.

Thank you Marilyn,
The dress did not look that dirty but it certainly brightened up after a wash.

Well, you have worked your magic again. She is adorable.

Are you planning to attend the Madame Alexander Doll Club convention in Michigan next month?

Hello Brenda,

What a sweet face this doll has! I imagine she was very loved at some point in her life.
I can tell some little girl dragged her around all over the place. She had what looked like years of dirt on her. She must be so thankful that you saw the beauty underneath the grubbiness!

She is truly a doll that beckons to he held and cuddled. Great going!

Thank you Dorothy,
Oh how I would love to attend that MA doll convention!! Sadly I am in CA. Now that we are starting to come out of lockdowns I hope I might find some doll conventions near me.

Thank you Janet,
I agree, these big baby dolls just make you want to hug them. I knew what she was the second I laid eyes on her! I could see she was just waiting to be restored to her beautiful self.

Thank you Xanadu,
I was amazed at how nice she came out. Her hair was in pretty bad shape. I’m pleased with the results.
